Provo City School District is celebrating National School Lunch Week from Oct. 12–16 with a special circus theme, according to an Oct. 12 report. The event, titled "Cafeteria Circus: Where School Meals Take Center Stage!" aims to recognize school nutrition programs and the Child Nutrition employees who serve students.
The week features various circus-themed lunch options. On Monday, Oct. 12, students can choose between pizza croissants or circus corn dogs. Tuesday, Oct. 13, offers tumbling tacos or ringleader burgers. Wednesday, Oct. 14, includes spaghetti with cannonball meatballs or "The Greatest Slice on Earth!" pizza. On Thursday, Oct. 15, the menu features tightrope tacos or a magic muffin meal consisting of a scratch-made muffin, string cheese, yogurt, and animal crackers. The week concludes on Friday, Oct. 16, with lion tamer pot pie or a big top cheesy dunk, which is a whole-grain cheese-stuffed breadstick served with marinara sauce.
Cafeterias will be transformed with colorful decorations, circus-themed photo booths, and activities such as circus trivia, prize drawings, or Golden Ticket surprises. Elementary schools are also provided with materials for a circus-themed coloring contest. Students who bring lunch from home are invited to participate in these activities alongside those eating school meals to ensure everyone is included.
The celebration highlights the role of Child Nutrition teams who prepare meals, maintain food safety, and provide fresh produce. While the themed festivities conclude on Friday, the district noted that the work of feeding Provo students continues throughout the school year.
The district invites students and staff to join the celebration by wearing circus-inspired accessories like bright colors, stripes, or polka dots, as permitted by their specific schools.
