The Days of '47 recognized significant contributions to its history today while honoring three presidents who have led the organization in recent years.
Craig Peterson, a Salt Lake City businessman and entrepreneur, served as president during 2013 and also chaired The Days of '47 Rodeo. During his tenure, the organization transitioned through economic and organizational challenges, ending with a positive outlook for future activities.
Following Peterson, Greg James served as president. Mr. James, who is the owner of the Utah-based consulting firm James and James and former general manager of KSL, also held the position of Public Affairs chair during 2014.
Mr. James remains with the Board of Trustees and contributes to all events through leadership, sponsorship, and public affairs. He also serves as Executive Vice President with the Executive Committee and is noted for bringing the Dixie Celebration under The Days of '47 event offerings.
Lane Summerhays currently holds the position of president. A former president of Workers Compensation Fund and current member of that fund's board of directors, Mr. Summerhays has focused his recent efforts on creating a supporting organization.
This new entity, The Days of '47 Rodeo Salt Lake, is a newly-authorized 501(c)(3), Type I organization designed to provide revenue. Mr. Summerhays serves as a member of the board of trustees for this organization and holds positions on various other community boards.
