The Davis Chamber of Commerce held a Women in Business Luncheon on Thursday, September 10, at the Davis Technical College Allied Health Building. The event featured a panel of female legislators discussing their experiences in leadership and the issues impacting businesses and communities across the state.
The luncheon included speakers Melissa Garff Ballard and Karianne Lisonbee. Representative Melissa Garff Ballard, who was elected to the Utah legislature in 2018, has served as Chair of Higher Education Appropriations and Vice Chair of Criminal Justice Appropriations. Her legislative work has covered education funding transparency, government fiscal transparency, and prison reform.
Representative Karianne Lisonbee has served in the Utah House of Representatives since 2017. She serves as the Chair of the House Judiciary Committee and is a member of the Education and Criminal Justice Appropriations committees, focusing on public safety, taxation, and regulation.
Tami Tran, the Mayor of Kaysville and a State Senate candidate, also participated in the event. Tran serves as the Chair of the Davis Technical College Board of Trustees and the Davis County Council of Governments. Her professional background includes roles as an entrepreneur and CEO of Rylex and Woodbury Technologies.
The event, which took place from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM, provided an opportunity for business owners, professionals, and community leaders to discuss the importance of women having a voice in leadership and service.
