According to the Utah Office of Energy Development, nuclear power plants are highly reliable, producing electricity more than 92% of the time throughout the year, regardless of weather or season. In comparison, geothermal energy, another renewable resource, produces energy 65% of the time.
State officials have promoted nuclear energy as an emissions-free solution because reactors generate electricity through fission rather than combustion. This process avoids the production of smoke, soot, or air pollutants like those produced by candles or other combustion-based sources.
