The University of Utah men's golf team completed two rounds of the Big 12 Match Play on Tuesday morning at The Country Club at Salt Lake City. The Utes move into the third round seeking to recover from two match play losses against BYU and ASU.
The tournament schedule was impacted by weather and light constraints, resulting in the second round being cut short on Monday, October 12. Following the completion of the second round on Tuesday morning, Utah sits with two losses: a 2-3 result against BYU and a 4.5-0.5 loss to ASU.
Seniors Jack Jerge and Gabriel Palacios provided the wins for the Utes. Jerge secured victories in both the first and second rounds, winning 2UP and 3&1 against BYU, and 2UP against ASU. Palacios earned a win in the first round against BYU with a score of 3&2.
Other match results included Sergio Jimenez losing 1UP to BYU and 2&1 to ASU. Rex Wilson lost 2&1 to BYU and 2UP to ASU. Jan Farre lost 3&1 to BYU, and Will Pizza lost 6&5 to ASU.
Match play format differs from traditional stroke play, as five golfers from each team compete head-to-head on each hole. The team with the most individual wins in a matchup earns three points. The Utes previously participated in one round of match play in 2026 during the Jackson T. Stephens Cup.
The Utes are scheduled to complete the Pool C circuit against Iowa State. The third round of matches is scheduled for a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, followed by a fourth round at 1:30 p.m. Awards are scheduled for Wednesday, October 14, at 1:30 p.m.
