The Carbon Dinos claimed the top spot in Region 13 following the opening golf match on Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the Green River Golf Course. Led by a field-low round of 71 from Levi King, the Dinos finished with a team score of 299, setting a strong tone for the 2026 season.
Regional Match Results
Carbon's dominant performance at the Green River Golf Course saw the team finish 19 strokes ahead of the second-place Union team, which posted a score of 318. As reported by Castle Country Radio and ETV News, the Dinos' victory marked a significant start to the regional campaign.
In addition to the top two finishers, the Emery Spartans hosted the event and finished in third place with a total score of 337. North Sanpete finished fourth with a 372, while Manti rounded out the field with a 375.
Carbon Dinos Individual Scoring
Levi King led the Carbon Dinos with a field-leading low round of 71. He was supported by Dayton King and Christian Cowan, who both shot 75, and Tristen Cunningham, who finished the scoring four with a 78.
Other Carbon golfers participating in the match included McKennon Stevenson, who carded an 85; Bryken Preston, who shot an 86; Kaeden Sandoval, who posted an 89; and Porter Marshall, who finished with a 90.
Coach Etzel on Team Depth
Carbon coach Robbi Etzel expressed optimism regarding the team's composition following the opening match. Etzel noted that the squad possesses a unique combination of depth and experience that the team has not seen in a long time.
"I can take any eight varsity players to a match, and I know every single one of them can shoot in the 70s," Etzel told Castle Country Radio.
Emery Spartans Individual Scoring
The Emery Spartans saw several players contribute to their third-place finish. Brenden Behunin led the Spartans with an 81, followed by Bodee Norton with an 84. Austin Leonard recorded an 85, and Owen Blackham rounded out the scoring for Emery with an 87.
Other Spartan participants included Corbin Madsen and Bronx Olsen, who both shot 90, Easton Olsen, who shot a 96, and Mason Winn, who posted a 116.
Spartans Outlook
Emery coach Kasey Edgehouse highlighted the performance of the team's younger members during the opening match. Edgehouse noted that the group has high expectations for the season due to a strong mix of players.
"It was great to see some of our younger players step up for our first match," Edgehouse told Castle Country Radio. "I have a great group of boys this season and have very high expectations out of them. We have a great mix of players this year; our group of seniors will help the younger players grow and compete."
Upcoming Schedule and Venues
The regional golf schedule shifts to the Carbon Country Club Golf Course next week. This venue will host three different matches for the Dinos during the season.
In addition to the upcoming matches, the Carbon Country Club Golf Course is scheduled to host both the Region Championship and the season-ending State Championship later this season.
