The Green River Pirates baseball team fell to a 0-7 season record following two losses over a weekend tournament at the Valley, according to reporting from Castle Country Radio. The squad faced defeats against the Bryce Valley Mustangs and the American Heritage Patriots during the two-day competition.
First Game Against Bryce Valley
In their first matchup of the weekend, the Pirates faced the Bryce Valley Mustangs and suffered a 13-3 loss in five innings. Green River demonstrated an early offensive surge in the top of the first inning when Gabriel Quintana reached first base on a ground ball and an error by the Mustangs' first baseman, allowing Jesus Escalante to score. A walk by Brixton Meadows and a score by Skyler Davis extended the Pirates' early lead to 2-0 before the bottom of the inning.
Mustangs Secure Dominant Win
The Mustangs responded in the bottom of the first inning to take a 5-2 lead. Bryce Valley continued their dominance in the second inning, adding five runs to extend the lead to 10-2. While both teams remained scoreless through the third inning, the Mustangs added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure a 13-3 victory in the five-inning contest. Escalante, who started the game on the mound, recorded one hit and one run scored, while also pitching through eight hits and three strikeouts, giving up six earned runs.
Saturday Loss to American Heritage
The Pirates faced the American Heritage Patriots on Saturday, once again securing an early lead but ultimately falling 11-5 in a six-inning game. The Pirates opened strong in the first inning when Jesus Escalante reached base on a double to left field, later scoring on a line drive hit to center by Skyler Davis. Following Davis's hit, Cooper Meadows drew a walk, and Gabriel Quintana grounded out to shortstop, allowing Davis to score. A ground ball by Brohdy O'Keefe resulted in an error by the pitcher, which allowed Meadows to score, giving the Pirates a 3-0 advantage.
Patriots Overcome Early Deficit
The American Heritage Patriots responded by adding one run in the bottom of the second inning to make the score 3-1. While the Pirates remained scoreless in the third, the Patriots added a run to cut the lead to 3-2. In the top of the fourth inning, Escalante drew a walk on a wild pitch, allowing Jaziel Hernandez to score and moving the score to 4-2 in favor of Green River. However, American Heritage responded with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 9-4 lead. The Pirates added one final run in the fifth inning when Skyler Davis scored on a wild pitch during a Quintana at-bat, but the Patriots added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to seal the 11-5 win.

Several Pirates players contributed to the scoring during the Saturday loss. David Mendez, Jesus Escalante, and Skyler Davis each recorded one hit in two at-bats. Escalante also scored one run, while Davis contributed two runs and an RBI. Gabriel Quintana finished with one hit in three at-bats and an RBI, and both Cooper Meadows and Jaziel Hernandez scored runs for the team. On the mound for the Pirates, David Mendez pitched four and 1/3 innings, allowing 11 runs, six of which were earned, on 10 hits while recording five strikeouts. Brixton Meadows provided relief, pitching 2/3 of an inning.
