Please note the following weekly announcements.

1. Beginning-of-Year NWEA Testing

Beginning-of-Year NWEA testing begins today, Monday, August 24.

August 24–28: Students will complete NWEA Math and Science assessments.

August 31–September 11: NWEA Reading assessments and make-up testing will take place.

2. Safety Drill – Today, August 24

We will conduct a school safety drill today, Monday, August 24. During the drill, students and staff will practice our evacuation procedures.

3. Complete Your Annual PowerSchool Information Update

If you have not already done so, please complete the required Annual PowerSchool Information Update as soon as possible. Keeping this information current helps ensure the school has accurate contact, emergency, and student information.

4. Picture Day – Tuesday, September 1

Picture Day is Tuesday, September 1. Please remind your child that school pictures are intended to be professional photographs that accurately reflect the student's appearance. These photographs are used in our official student information system, may assist with student identification in an emergency, and are included in the school yearbook.

5. PTA Meetings & Membership

Our first PTA meeting of the school year is this Tuesday, August 25, at 10:30am in the CMS Library. There will also be a PTA meeting the following week on Tuesday, September 1, at 10:30am. All interested parents are invited to attend!

6. Vision Screenings – September 1

Vision screenings will take place on Tuesday, September 1 for all 7th grade students and select 8th grade students. If you have questions regarding vision screenings, please contact our school nurse, Carol Simmonds, at carols@provo.edu.

7. Attendance – Excusing Student Absences

Please remember that student absences must be excused within one week of the absence. Provo City School District's attendance policy states: “A parent may excuse an absence via a school approved messaging method within a reasonable timeframe… not to exceed one week after the absence.”

To excuse an absence, please contact our Attendance Secretary, Selene Castro, by visiting the school, calling the school, or emailing cmsattendance@provo.edu. Phone calls and emails will be verified using the parent/guardian contact information listed in PowerSchool.

8. School Fees & Fee Waivers

Information regarding school fees and fee waivers is available on the Provo City School District website:

10. School Community Council Parent Self-Nominations

Parents interested in serving on Centennial Middle School's School Community Council (SCC) are invited to self-nominate. Deadline: Wednesday, August 26, at 4:00 p.m.

SCC elections will be held Monday, August 31, at 9:00am through Friday, September 4, at 4:00pm. Voting will take place electronically through Google Forms, with an in-person voting option also available. Additional election information will be shared as the election approaches.

11. Safe Routes to School

If your child walks, rides a bicycle, or uses a micromobility device, such as a scooter, to travel to and from school, please review Centennial Middle School's approved Safe Routes Plan:

Reminder: Bicycles and micromobility devices must be walked while on school grounds and sidewalks.

12. No School – Monday, September 7

As a reminder, there will be no school on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.
