David Victor Rea, age 92, passed away peacefully at his home in Sunnyside on June 9, 2026. Born on August 25, 1933, in Dragerton, which is now known as Sunnyside, Utah, Rea was a lifelong member of The Church of $Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
A well-known local figure
As the oldest living male born in Sunnyside who remained a lifelong resident of the community, Rea was well-known by neighbors for waving to passersby from his front porch swing.
Life of service and work
Rea's life was defined by service and hard work. After serving his country, he married Kathryn Cox Rea, with whom he raised two children. During his time in Sunnyside, he worked in the coal mines for more than 30 years and served as a volunteer firefighter for many years.
Personal interests and survivors
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and working on projects in his garage. He is survived by his sons, Wayne (Shelly) Rea and Glenn Rea, along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral and memorial services
A visitation will be held on June 19, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home in Price. The graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Valley View Cemetery in Sunnyside.
Arrangements are being handled by Mitchell Funeral Home of Price and Huntington.
