Snow Removal Operations
The Kaysville City Public Works department is focused on maintaining road safety by removing ice as quickly as possible to ensure traffic flow and emergency service access. Snow clearing begins on primary roads to prioritize streets with the highest volume of regular and emergency traffic. The amount of plows used and the types of materials applied are determined by specific weather conditions. Residents can use the city's snow plow tracker during snow days.
Public Works employees work long hours, often during the early morning or late at night in difficult weather, to salt and plow streets.
Winter Parking Rules and Fines
Regarding winter parking, Kaysville City Code prohibits overnight parking on streets from November 1 to March 1 between 12:00 AM and 6:00 AM. Citations are issued regardless of whether it snows. Each citation costs $40.00, though amounts may be reduced if paid in a timely manner. After 30 days, the full amount is due. Citations can be paid online or in person at City Hall.
Sidewalk Clearing Responsibilities
Property owners are responsible for removing snow from all public sidewalks that abut their property, including corner lots and properties backing onto public streets. Residents are also instructed to clear a path from fire hydrants to the street and maintain a wide enough perimeter around hydrants, approximately 3 feet, for firefighters to work.
Illegal Snow Disposal Practices
Under Kaysville City Ordinance 9-2-11, it is illegal to shovel or blow snow into the street. This practice can create hazards as snow placed in the road can freeze and reduce traction.
