Tech billionaire Matthew Prince is pressuring Vail Resorts to sell Park City Mountain Resort, claiming the company's current management team is a "bad capital allocator" that should shift toward an asset-light franchise model.
Prince's push for sale
According to reporting by The Colorado Sun, Prince—the founder of Cloudflare and the wealthiest person in Utah—believes shareholders will eventually demand a change in how Vail Resorts manages its 42 properties. Prince, who worked as a ski instructor at the resort in the mid-1990s, stated that selling the Park City flagship is "the right thing to do."
Proposed investments and takeover risks
Prince expressed a desire to invest $500 million into the Park City area for snowmaking and lift upgrades, though he noted that local trust in Vail Resorts has been damaged by issues such as the 2025 holiday ski patroller strike. While Prince is not seeking to take over the entire Vail Resorts corporation, he warned that activist investors could potentially seize the company and sell off major assets like Whistler-Blackcomb or Breckenridge to fund a takeover.
Southern Utah art exhibits
In southern Utah, the Southern Utah Art Guild is showcasing various regional artists throughout June. The Red Cliff Gallery in St. George is presenting "Explosion of Color," an exhibit featuring more than 190 pieces from 83 artists that remains on display through June 18.
Textile artist spotlight in St. George
The Guild's Arrowhead Gallery is also hosting a June spotlight on textile artist Patricia Knott. The gallery, located in St. George, features works by Knott that have previously been shown at the St. George Art Museum and the Brigham City Museum of Art & History.
New golf simulator opens in Hildale
In Hildale, a new indoor golf simulator studio called The Birdie Box has been operating since its April 8 opening. Founded by local entrepreneur Avery Hammon, the facility provides high-fidelity technology to track swing speed and ball trajectory.
Hammon stated that the studio was created to provide more activity-based entertainment options within the local community. The Birdie Box offers weekday discounts of $30 per hour before 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, while standard rates are $40 per hour.
