The Christa McAuliffe Space Center in Pleasant Grove hosted its annual Deck the Dome laser show this December. The event, which is part of an Alpine School District education program, featured a 50-minute light display in Utah’s second largest planetarium.
The show ran from after Thanksgiving through December, providing a seasonal experience for families and visitors of all ages.
The laser shows were created by the Space Center staff. Director James Porter stated that the center purchased more equipment following previous years when shows sold out. Past musical themes have included artists such as Taylor Swift and Daft Punk, as well as the movie music of John Williams.
The production utilized a laser light system designed to synchronize patterns and images with the music. Staff members including Tiscia Westerman and Mary Olsen contributed to developing certain laser effects for the program.
The Space Center celebrated its 35th anniversary during this period. Local teacher Amy Reid noted that the show is a family tradition featuring unique imagery, such as a Santa Claus playing an electric guitar.
