Cloudflare founder and billionaire Matthew Prince is calling on Vail Resorts to sell Park City Mountain Resort, arguing the company should transition to an asset-light franchise model to address its struggling stock price.
Prince proposes new business model
Prince, who grew up working as a ski instructor at the resort in the mid-1990s, told The Colorado Sun that Vail Resorts' current management team does not sell properties. He suggested that shareholders may eventually demand a change because the company's market capitalization is less than the combined value of its 42 ski areas.
Investment plan for Park City
The proposed plan involves selling underlying resorts while negotiating a model where properties can still participate in the Epic Pass. Prince stated he is prepared to invest $500 million into the Park City area, focusing on snowmaking, lift upgrades, and employee profit-sharing.
Concerns over local community impact
Prince noted that local trust in Vail Resorts has been strained by issues such as the 2025 holiday ski patroller strike and proposed lift upgrades that do not address parking challenges. He expressed a desire to keep the resort open to both locals and visitors, rather than creating an exclusive club for wealthy individuals.
New federal border security funding
In separate national news, The White House announced on June 9, 2026, that the Secure America Act aims to provide multi-year funding for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin stated that following Senate passage last week, the House is the final hurdle in ensuring agents have necessary resources.
