The Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce Public Relations Committee has recognized multiple individuals with the Quarterly Outstanding Public Service Award for their various contributions to the community.
Matt Tate was honored for his decades of service and commitment to volunteerism in the Uintah Basin. For 24 years, Tate and his family have supported families in need through Santa’s Angels, a nonprofit organization. In 2025, the organization helped 112 families, providing full Christmas adoptions for 62 families and partial adoptions for 50 others. Tate also manages the Santa’s Angels Used Toy Shop and has spent 15 years restoring bicycles for local children. His volunteer work includes serving on the Tridall Community Board for eight years and serving as president and a board member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) for four years.
Lisa Ewell, owner and operator of the Vernal Wendy’s since 1992, received the award for her community involvement and leadership. Ewell supports the Vernal Oilers hockey team through sponsorships and meals. She is also an active supporter of the Special Olympics, the Torch Run, and Charitable Friends of Ashley Valley. Additionally, she has served in youth-focused church and community programs, including teaching Sunday school and supporting young women’s sports.
Matt Foley, a video sales representative for V6 Video, was recognized for his community leadership. Foley has served on the Chamber's Public Relations committee and as president of the Dinamites. His volunteer efforts include working with the Uintah Public Library and leading drone workshops for children.
Pete Morphy, President of Grand Valley Bank in Vernal, was honored for his extensive local involvement. Morphy serves on the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce Board and the RLF Board for the Uintah Basin Association of Governments. He also serves on the Board of the Intermountain Natural History Association and is a member of the Vernal Dinah-mites, where he served as president in 2023 and 2024.
Mark Foley was recognized for his contributions as a longtime community member and former President of the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce from 1991 to 1992. He is a founding board member and current president of the Vernal Chamber Foundation. Foley also serves as Vice President of the Board for Ashley Regional Medical Center and is an Eagle Scout who has served in multiple capacities with the Boy Scouts. He and his wife, Judy, operate Neighborhood Cleaners and support various local charities, including Trees for Charity and the Vernal Rotary Club's annual coats for kids project.
