Authorities have identified the victims of two fatal crashes that occurred in Bear Lake County, Idaho, within a 24-hour period in late August. The fatalities involve a 22-year-old man from North Ogden, Utah, and a 71-year-old man from Ovid, according to recent reports.
Victims Identified
The identification of the victims follows a series of accidents in the region during the final week of August. As the Idaho State Journal reported on Sept. 5, 2026, the two men were killed in separate incidents occurring roughly one day apart.
Minnetonka Cave Road Crash
The first fatality occurred on Friday, Aug. 28, 2026, at 11:22 a.m. on Minnetonka Cave Road, located west of St. Charles. According to the Idaho State Police, a 22-year-old male from North Ogden, Utah, was traveling eastbound on the road when the crash occurred. The individual was riding a white 2026 Kawasaki KLX110 motorcycle at the time of the incident.
Ovid Fatality Details
The second fatal incident took place less than 24 hours earlier. On Aug. 27, 2026, at 11:12 a.m., a crash occurred on North Road, just west of Johnson Road in Ovid, Idaho. The Idaho State Police reported that a 71-year-old male, a resident of Ovid, was riding a 2014 Polaris Sportsman eastbound on North Road when the accident occurred.
Regional Safety Concerns
The crashes in Bear Lake County occurred during a period when local law enforcement was already on high alert. As Fox13 News previously noted, the Idaho State Police had been urging visitors to prioritize safety due to a high volume of incidents in the area during the summer season.
Summer Safety Push
In its Aug. 6, 2026, release, the Idaho State Police emphasized that increased patrols were being deployed throughout the Bear Lake area to manage heavier traffic and crowded roadways. This surge in enforcement was prompted by the influx of people traveling to the region for Raspberry Days and other recreational activities around the lake.
Ongoing Investigations
The investigation into the specific circumstances surrounding both the Aug. 27 and Aug. 28 crashes was initiated by the Idaho State Police following the incidents.
