The Provo City School District is inviting students, families, educators, and the community to participate in ProvoREADS through a theme titled Read Across the World. This district-wide commitment to literacy focuses on the goal of ensuring every child in Provo reads every day.
The ProvoREADS initiative aims to help students travel to new places, discover new perspectives, and explore unfamiliar ideas through books. The program is designed as a year-long reading adventure where students follow monthly themes inspired by different stages of a journey.
Throughout the school year, students are encouraged to discover books that interest them, establish reading habits, and celebrate their growth as readers. Each month will feature a Family Reading Challenge, with schools and classrooms bringing themes to life through activities, celebrations, and read-alouds.
The district's first theme for the school year was Pack Your Bags, which was dedicated to preparing for upcoming reading adventures. The August Family Reading Challenge encouraged participants to read in a new place, such as a park, under a tree, or on a porch.
District officials emphasized that building strong readers requires a community-wide culture of literacy. The initiative encourages adults, including parents and community leaders, to make reading visible by reading alongside children and sharing stories to show that literacy is a lifelong value.
The Provo City School District stated that the goal of the initiative is to make reading a part of every day for every student, teacher, and community member.
