While background noise apps can mask disruptive sounds and encourage relaxation, the report warned that constant noise may interfere with natural sleep cycles or create a dependence on sound to fall asleep.

Wearable trackers can raise awareness of sleep patterns and motivate behavior changes, but the department cautioned that these devices are not always accurate and may cause increased stress, a condition known as orthosomnia, if users worry too much about their data. For those with sleep apnea, medical devices like CPAP machines are described as highly effective for improving health and reducing risks like heart disease, though the report noted challenges regarding cost, access, and initial comfort.
