The Council approved the purchase of a new or slightly used brush truck for the fire department for up to $75,000. Fire Chief Jason Bolinder noted the department currently uses an older truck and a vehicle obtained from the Forest Service that is not owned by the town. The Council also approved a $1,999 reimbursement for fire department member Ace Hymas for completing an EMT course.
Regarding the Clover Church restoration, Councilmember Lacey Burrows stated the building is nearly complete, with only minor drywall repairs and additional brickwork remaining. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is tentatively planned for Saturday, September 12, before Rush Valley Days. The Council discussed requirements for security cameras, internet service, and insurance coverage before allowing visitors in the building.
The Tooele County Sheriff's Office reported five incidents occurring in the last month, the most significant being a fatality on Mormon Trail. The Council discussed concerns regarding speeding by workers traveling to and from Dugway. Additionally, Brian Wallace of Nevada Team Two provided information on wildfire activity, noting that dry fuels and high winds contribute to rapid fire spread. The Council encouraged residents to postpone activities like welding or grinding that could create ignition sources during extreme conditions.
Other reports included updates on road maintenance such as mowing and fire mitigation, as well as cemetery cleanup. Chief Bolinder reported that the fire department responded to 16 calls since the previous meeting, including eight medical calls and seven fire responses.
