The City of Orem has released its agenda for the May 12, 2026, City Council meeting, which features a series of presentations during the afternoon work session and several legislative items during the evening regular session. The meeting is scheduled to take place at 56 North State Street, with the work session beginning at 3:00 P.M.
Key topics for the session include updates from the Utah Transportation Authority (UTA), a legislative report from Utah State Representative Val Peterson, and a report from UTOPIA. Additionally, the council will hear presentations regarding the General Fund Sustainability Study Follow-Up, the HeArt of Downtown project, and matters involving the Neighborhood Improvement Team and parking enforcement.
During the 6:00 P.M. regular session, several departmental reports are scheduled, including presentations on Building Safety Awareness Month from Chief Building Official Paul Ashton and National Police Week from Police Chief BJ Robinson. Chris Tschirki, Public Works Director, will present on National Public Works Week.
The council will also address several zoning and land use items presented by Planning Manager Jared Hall. These include a request to vacate a portion of the 100 and 590 East right-of-way, a request to change a property at 92 South 800 East from single-family residential to commercial for assisted living facilities, and a request to amend the zoning for a property on South Geneva Road to Planned Residential Development.
A significant portion of the evening will focus on fiscal matters presented by Chief Financial Officer Brandon C. Nelson, CPA. This includes the Fiscal Year 2026-2027 tentative budget, the CARE Tax allotment, and the proposed creation of a Public Safety Special Revenue Fund through the dedication of property tax revenue.
The agenda also includes discussions regarding a proposed property tax rate increase included in the FY 2026-2027 Tentative Budget. The Chief Financial Officer intends to provide a statement of intent and a Proposed Property Tax Impact Schedule identifying potential revenue changes.
Following the City Council meeting, the session will adjourn to meetings for the Orem Redevelopment Agency (RDA) and the Orem Special Service Lighting District (SSLD) to discuss their respective Fiscal Year 2026-2027 tentative budgets.
