Rain and incoming storms forced an early end to the first day of the 2026 17u PGA Jr. League Championship at Twin Warriors Golf Club in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico, on Friday, Oct. 23, 2026. As play was suspended, Team Utah and Team Florida remained locked in a tie at 43-under par, with both teams seeking to secure a spot in the Sunday championship match.
### Weather Interrupts Opening Round
Despite the weather disruption, the high desert location of Twin Warriors provided a competitive backdrop for the twelve All-Star teams. The 17u Championship is in its fourth year at the site, which is nestled in the sacred lands of the Tamayame, per the PGA of America.
Round one, which was played in an 18-hole team aggregate stroke play scramble format, is scheduled to resume at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026. The second round will begin at 9 a.m. on the same day. The 36-hole aggregate team total from Friday and Saturday will determine the seeding for the semifinal match-play rounds held on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026.
While the storms caused a delay, Team Florida Coach Kaden Wrisner, PGA, expressed pride in his players' performance before the suspension. Wrisner noted that the team was putting well and maintaining high energy through communication, which he described as the most important part of the game.
### Leaderboard and Team Standings
As the first day concluded, Team Utah (Lehi) and Team Florida (Orlando) led the field with a score of 43-under par. Following the leaders, Team Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh) sat in third place at 34-under, while Team Texas (Austin) held fourth place at 32-under with several holes remaining.

### Utah's Championship Path
Team Utah, represented by the TPoint Legends from Lehi, entered the championship following a dominant performance in the regional tournaments held in Nampa, Idaho, from Sept. 25-27, 2026. During those regionals, the TPoint Legends secured the No. 1 seed after a -39 score in the Saturday qualifying rounds, according to Lehi Free Press.
In the regional semifinals, the TPoint Legends defeated the Evergreen Black 17u All-Stars of Evergreen Golf Club 9.5-2.5, and later secured their championship berth by defeating the MSCC Atomic All-Stars 7-5. The squad is coached by Tele Wightman, PGA, the General Manager at the Thanksgiving Point course.
The TPoint Legends roster includes several notable Utah high school golfers, including sophomore stars Crue Harward, 15, and Jordan Ofahengaue, 16. The team also features Blake Brown, a Lone Peak sophomore and defending state 6A champion; Drew Wilson, a 2025 state 6A medalist; and Ryder Huish, a 6A medalist from Highland. Other members include Mack Herzog, a returning 5A state medalist; Jace Benson, a 3A state medalist; and Nicklaus Miller, the newly-crowned Region 7 champion.
### Tournament Background and Field
The 2026 17u PGA Jr. League Championship features a field that includes five first-time participants: California (Westside, Los Angeles), Illinois (Schaumburg), Gateway (Christensen Golf Academy, Quincy, Ill.), Kansas (Hallbrook, Leawood), and New Jersey (Haworth).
The tournament also features teams with significant history in the competition. Florida's Marriott All-Stars from Orlando are making their third appearance after finishing as runners-up at the inaugural 17u Championship in 2023. Team Utah also brings championship experience, having finished as the 2024 runner-up at Twin Warriors.
Prior to this championship, the 2026 season has seen significant growth for the PGA Jr. League, with nearly 89,000 player registrations recorded nationwide. This year, the 17u Championship is one of two major national events, alongside the 13u Championship which will be held in November at Fields Ranch West at PGA Frisco.
### Insights from the Field
Before the tournament began, the event included a welcome party featuring special guest Notah Begay III, a well-known golf analyst for the Golf Channel and NBC Sports and a 2026 Payne Stewart Award recipient. Begay, an Albuquerque native and one of the few Native American golfers to play on the PGA Tour, spoke to the players about the importance of physical and mental preparation.
Begay advised the junior golfers that success in the sport requires commitment to nutrition, hydration, and sleep. "This game is a marathon, not a sprint," Begay told the participants, noting that those who prioritize these elements will gain more confidence on the tee.
### Tournament Schedule
Following the resumption of play on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, the top four teams from the 36-hole aggregate total will advance to match-play semifinals on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026. The winners of the semifinals will compete in the final championship match on Sunday afternoon.
Teams that do not qualify for the semifinals will compete in the Twin Warriors Fiesta de Tamaya, a nine-hole, two-person scramble event, to determine third place.
