Recent heavy rainfall has led to a significant reduction in drought coverage and intensity across the Southeast. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, much of the northern tier of Florida as well as central and southern Alabama and Georgia received impressive rainfall, with many locations seeing more than 8 inches of rain during the monitoring period.

This shift toward wetter conditions was influenced by the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur interacting with a stalled front.
Persistent drought in specific regions
Despite the widespread relief from drought, some regions continue to experience significant moisture deficits. Portions of Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia maintain a drought footprint. In southern Florida, pockets of extreme drought (D3) persist, contributing to hydrological issues such as unusually dry wetlands and wildfires, even with scattered thunderstorms.
Agricultural moisture and pasture status
The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported on June 21 that statewide topsoil moisture in agricultural regions reached a 34% surplus in Alabama and a 33% surplus in Georgia. However, the impact on vegetation remains evident in other areas; the USDA noted that statewide pastures were rated 53% very poor to poor in both North Carolina and Virginia.

Agricultural impacts also extend to crops in North Carolina, where the corn crop was rated 40% very poor to poor due to a combination of drought and extreme heat.
Changes in regional water levels
Water levels in key areas show signs of decline or stability. On June 21, the stage on Lake Okeechobee was recorded at 9.70 feet, representing a decrease of 0.23 foot from one month prior.
