ProvoREADS is celebrating the individual growth and milestones of young readers throughout October, according to a report published October 9.
The initiative emphasizes that every child develops at their own pace, noting that even small steps, such as reading a new word or revisiting a favorite story, are meaningful parts of the reading journey.
The October Family Reading Challenge encourages families to read together through various methods, such as reading aloud, taking turns, or having children tell stories using pictures. To support these efforts, the program suggests using conversation starters before, during, and after reading sessions.
Families are encouraged to let children help select books and to recognize the effort involved in every page turned.
A ProvoREADS Family Literacy Night is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026, from 5:00–7:30 p.m. at Shoreline Middle School.
This Parent University event is for families with children in PreK–3rd grade. Attendees can participate in literacy activities and learn practical ideas for reading at home. The event will include a complimentary family dinner and a free book for every child.
