Salt Lake County is extending hours and access at five recreation centers this weekend to offer residents a cool place to go as temperatures rise. On Sunday, August 2, these centers will extend hours until 8:00 pm to provide more options for families to escape the heat.
Specific Cool Zones will be designated within facilities during normal operating hours, allowing guests to escape the heat without purchasing full access to the entire recreation center. Not all recreation center amenities will be available during the extended Cool Zone hours on Sunday, August 2.
The five recreation centers extending hours on Sunday, August 2, include:
Northwest Recreation Center, located at 1255 Clark Avenue (300 N), Salt Lake City, with Cool Zone hours from 2:30 pm to 8:00 pm.
Taylorsville Recreation Center, located at 4948 South 2700 West, Taylorsville, with Cool Zone hours from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
JL Sorenson Recreation Center, located at 5350 West Herriman Main Street, Herriman, with Cool Zone hours from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Dimple Dell Recreation Center, located at 10670 South 1000 East, Sandy, with Cool Zone hours from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
SLC Sports Complex, located at 645 South Guardsman Way, Salt Lake City, with Cool Zone hours from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
All Salt Lake County Cool Zones provide air-conditioned space and seating. Water and water bottle filling stations may be available at various locations throughout the weekend.
Homeless Resource Centers will remain open with normal operating hours, and the Weigand Center, located at 437 W 200 S, Salt Lake City, is open daily from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.
The County is asking residents to check on neighbors, family members, pets, and vulnerable individuals including older adults, young children, and outdoor workers. Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of water, limit time outside during the hottest part of the day, and never leave children or pets in a parked car.
