Utah State Parks is currently in discussions with stakeholders about the possibility of adding Mantua Reservoir to the Utah State Parks System. These talks are in their initial stages, and no agreements have been made at this time.
Although negotiations are ongoing, the Mantua Reservoir remains operational as it has traditionally been.
The inclusion of this item in the Governor’s budget represents an initial step toward securing funding if an agreement is reached. Utah State Parks has a history of partnering with various agencies to manage outdoor recreation in popular areas.
Past partnerships have involved entities such as the Bureau of Reclamation, the Bureau of Land Management, the Emery Water Conservation District, and the Washington County Water Conservancy District. Examples of parks established through similar agreements include Jordanelle, Willard Bay, Yuba, Sand Hollow, and Gunlock State Parks.
Utah State Parks stated they will continue to work with Mantua Town, Brigham City, Box Elder County, and other stakeholders throughout the planning and discussion process.
