UServeUtah's United in Service Projects mobilized communities through meaningful volunteerism intended to promote personal growth and build connection. These initiatives utilized projects curated with and for local partners to provide opportunities for impactful service that addressed local needs.
The program prioritized education, reflection, and connection to build stronger communities statewide by gaining new perspectives, developing empathy, and fostering a sense of belonging.
On July 18, the Canyon Rim Cares Day of Service took place at Canyon Rim Park in Millcreed. This community-wide volunteer event brought hundreds of residents together to support local non-profits and improve the community.
Volunteers of all ages participated in over 25 hands-on service projects focused on beautifying public spaces, addressing local needs, and improving the environment. Specific projects included making kits for refugee families, early learners, children in foster care, and those experiencing homelessness. Other activities involved painting murals or positive messages in sidewalk chalk, as well as tying blankets and making dog toys for the animal shelter.
The initiative aimed to address feelings of uncertainty, political polarization, and mental health through service. As Utah has historically held a ranking as the nation's leader in service and charitable giving, this initiative sought to remain intentional in continuing that legacy.
United in Service projects worked to provide days of service to promote change within communities and individuals. The program focused on fostering social connections, promoting empathy and understanding, and providing a sense of purpose and belonging to encourage civic engagement and social cohesion.
Individuals interested in supporting the initiative could participate as sponsors for upcoming service projects. Sponsors received highlights on the UServeUtah website, blog, and social media posts.
UServeUtah also accepted project proposals from across all geographic areas of Utah. Proposed projects were reviewed by the Community Engagement team based on criteria including addressing significant community needs, potential to inspire volunteerism, and the ability to accommodate large groups of participants.
