Summer theater is in full swing across Utah, with a diverse lineup of musicals, revivals, and new works scheduled for audiences throughout the Wasatch Front and Southern Utah through late 2026. From major musical productions in Salt Lake and Utah counties to Shakespearean plays in Cedar City, the state's theatrical calendar offers a wide variety of stories for the summer season.
Salt Lake County Highlights
In Salt Lake County, audiences can find a variety of current and upcoming performances. As Utah Theatre Arts Journal reported in July, the Hale Centre Theatre in Sandy is presenting Harmony and My Fair Lady, with Our Town scheduled to open July 6. The Salt Lake Acting Company is currently performing The Gaslight Zone through August 16, while the Desert Star Playhouse in Murray is running The Big Bang Theory: The Nerds are Back! until August 22.
Other notable Salt Lake County productions include The Lightning Thief, which is currently playing at both the Empress Theatre in Magna and Bluffdale Arts through August 3. The Great Salt Lake Fringe Festival is scheduled to take place in Salt Lake City between July 23 and August 2. Looking ahead, the Parker Theatre in South Salt Lake will present Cyrano De Bergerac starting August 1, and the Draper Historic Theatre will host High School Musical through August 1.
Utah County Musical Season
Utah County's theatrical scene features several high-profile musicals. The Utah Theatre Arts Journal noted in June that SCERA in Orem is presenting Matilda The Musical through July 18, while Timpanogos Arts Foundation in American Fork is also running the same production until July 18. In Pleasant Grove, The Ruth is presenting The Scarlet Pimpernel, which runs until August 22.
Additional Utah County engagements include Meet Me in St. Louis at the Salem Community Theater, running from July 30 through August 8, and Newsies at Fields & Co. in Springville, which runs until August 1. The Prince of Egypt is currently playing at the Spanish Fork Community Theater through July 25. In Lehi, the Lehi Art Council is presenting Frozen through July 25.
Northern Utah Productions
Northern Utah offers a robust selection of shows, particularly in the Logan area. The Lyric Repertory Company in Logan has a busy schedule, with Come From Away running through July 31 and Gutenberg! The Musical! running from July 3 through July 30. Other upcoming productions at the Lyric include The Outsider, running from July 9 through August 1.
In Centerville, the CenterPoint Legacy Theatre is currently presenting Disney’s Tarzan, which runs until August 8, and Once, which is scheduled to run from July 15 through August 18. In Ogden, Peery’s Egyptian/Ogden Musical Theatre will present Hairspray from July 17 through August 15, while Good Company will present Waiting for Godot starting July 30.
Southern Utah and Shakespeare
Southern Utah remains a major hub for summer theater, headlined by the Utah Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City. The festival is currently offering a variety of productions, including Hamlet, running until September 4, and See How They Run, running until September 4. Other Shakespearean options include Troilus and Cressida, running until September 3, and Twelfth Night, running until September 5. Additionally, the festival is presenting She Loves Me, which runs through October 3, and Something Rotten!, running through October 3.
In Ivins, the Tuacahn Amphitheatre and Center for the Arts is hosting several major productions, including Les Misérables through October 23, Disney and Pixar’s Finding Nemo through October 24, and Grease, which runs from July 10 through October 22. In St. George, The Stage Door is presenting Cottage from July 30 through August 15, while St. George Musical Theater is running Best of Broadway – Stars, Stripes, and Showtunes through August 1.
Regional and Upcoming Shows
The summer season also features several upcoming productions in the Uinta Basin and surrounding areas. In Vernal, Outlaw Trail Theater is presenting The Prince of Egypt through August 1. Other upcoming regional performances include A French Toast at Meanwhile Park in Parkcity and various performances scheduled for late summer in Washington Terrace and Murray.
