ProvoREADS is celebrating the individual growth and milestones that help children build confidence as readers throughout October, according to an October 7 statement. The initiative emphasizes that every child develops at their own pace, whether through reading a new word or attempting a challenging book.
The October Family Reading Challenge encourages families to spend time reading together by reading aloud, taking turns, or having children tell stories through pictures. To support this, ProvoREADS suggests using conversation starters before, during, and after reading to help children explore stories. Families are encouraged to let children help choose books and to recognize their effort as they progress.
A ProvoREADS Family Literacy Night is scheduled for Thursday, October 15, 2026, from 5:00–7:30 p.m. at Shoreline Middle School. This Parent University event is for families with children in PreK–3rd grade and will include literacy activities, practical ideas for reading at home, a complimentary family dinner, and a free book for every child.
