Ida M. Cotten Park in Salt Lake City has entered the construction phase as part of a city-wide initiative to revitalize underutilized green spaces. According to a notice on the Salt Lake City website, the project is funded by the Parks, Trails, & Open Space General Obligation Bond that was approved in November 2022.
The park, located at 1815 S 300 E, is currently closed for construction. The project aims to deliver new and improved amenities based on community input, including a new playground, drinking fountain, seating, plantings, and park lighting.
Following two rounds of public engagement, the final design will incorporate several community priorities. These include the installation of swings, the preservation of existing trees, the provision of shade, and the maintenance of clear sight lines throughout the park. A fence will also be installed around the new playground where appropriate.
Construction was anticipated to begin in July 2026, with the park expected to reopen in Spring 2027. The project is being managed by Dustin Wiberg.
