Best Friends Animal Society is offering an Introduction to Trades Apprenticeship through its Canyon Division in Kanab, according to a September 9 report. The program is designed for young people aged 18 and older looking to begin a potential career path in the trades.
The temporary, 12-week part-time position pays $16 per hour. Apprentices will spend four weeks each in three different departments: Maintenance, Buildings, and Utilities.
Jarad Brinkerhoff, director of canyon operations for Best Friends Animal Society, stated that the program is an ideal opportunity for individuals who enjoy working with their hands and desire a broad learning experience in a supportive environment.
Apprentices will learn various skills, including vehicle repair, fencing and grounds upkeep, and assisting technicians with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC work. The training also covers construction tasks such as pouring concrete, framing, and insulation, as well as fabrication work involving welding and plasma cutting. Additionally, apprentices will work on maintaining municipal water and wastewater systems and installing electrical systems.
Brinkerhoff noted that the program aims to produce graduates with skilled trades to create a pipeline of future employees for Best Friends Animal Society. He identified the organization as the largest employer in Kane County, offering career paths and benefits.
