October 13th, 2026 Mayor’s Message – October 2026

Dear Residents,

The Fall season in West Jordan means crisp mornings on the Jordan River Trail, youth sports in full swing, fantastic bicycling temperatures, and, this year, a general election! Ballots have been mailed, so here’s a quick guide to make sure your vote counts. Consider it my “ballot-ful” public service announcement.

Key dates:

– Oct. 13: Ballots were mailed to active registered voters. Watch your mailbox. If you do not recive your ballot, reach out to the Salt Lake County Clerk’s Office.

– Oct. 20: In-person early voting begins.

– Oct. 23: Last day to register or update your registration, by 5 p.m.

– Oct. 31: Saturday early voting, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is new in Salt Lake County this year.

– Tuesday, Nov. 3: Election Day. Ballots must be received by 8 p.m. If you’re voting in person, don’t forget West Jordan City Hall (8000 S. Redwood Rd.) is a voting center!

One important change to know:

A postmark is no longer enough. Your mailed ballot must be in the Salt Lake County Clerk’s hands by 8 p.m. on Election Day. If you’re voting in the final week, skip the mailbox and use a drop box (there are two in West Jordan!) or a vote center. Drop boxes close at 8 p.m. on Election Day. Follow the instructions on your return envelope, sign it, and you’re set.

Check your status:

Look up your registration and track your ballot at vote.utah.gov. For questions, contact the Salt Lake County Clerk’s Elections Division at saltlakecounty.gov/clerk/elections or 385-468-7350.

A Salt Lake County measure on your ballot:

Salt Lake County voters will also decide on a Recreation General Obligation Bond of up to $128 million, proposed by the Salt Lake County Council. According to the County, the bond would fund 30 regional park, trail and recreation projects across the county. Two are in West Jordan: a proposed recreation center at Ron Wood Regional Park, and irrigation system replacement at Cougar Park.

This is a Salt Lake County measure, and the City does not take a position on it. You can review the project list, map, cost estimates and FAQ at slco.to/rec-bond. The County will also mail informational pamphlets to registered voter households.

Voting is a simple and fantastic way to have a say in the community we call home. I’ll see you at the ballot box!

Sincerely,

Mayor Dirk Burton
