Weber State University is kicking off homecoming week with events and traditions for students, alumni, and the community to join. Heather Cimino, assistant director of Student Involvement and Leadership, stated that homecoming is a way to create a sense of community and excitement regarding being at Weber State.
The weeklong celebration will begin with the Purple Paw Parade on Oct. 10 from 9 a.m. to noon. Wildcats and community members are invited to participate in the parade through downtown Ogden to show purple pride.
Light the W, an iconic celebration that began in 1937, will return on Oct. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stewart Stadium’s north parking lot. The event features a pep rally, live music, food trucks, and a countdown from the WSU Spirit Squad before the W illuminates. Guests also have the opportunity to create their own luminary to light the evening.
WSU Student Body President Emmett Busby said he is excited for Casino Night, which is scheduled for Oct. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Shepherd Union Ballrooms. This free event for students includes casino games, food, and prizes.
Busby noted that associating positive feelings with the university through connections is beneficial for academic and social life. He mentioned that he met his best friend at a previous Casino Night and is looking forward to the opportunity to make more friends and spread school spirit.
The homecoming celebration will conclude with Fan Fest, a free tailgate for all, on Oct. 17 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Stewart Stadium’s north parking lot. The event will include free food, giveaways, games, and activities for all ages.
Following the tailgate, the Wildcats will play Idaho State during the homecoming football game at 1 p.m. at Stewart Stadium. WSU students can obtain two free tickets via the Weber State Ticket Office website. A full schedule and a football ticket discount code are available on the university's homecoming website.
