Utah libraries and elementary schools have launched a variety of summer programming, ranging from dinosaur-themed reading challenges in Summit County to outdoor storytime sessions for infants in Brigham City.
Summit County Reading Challenge
The Summit County Library has introduced its 2026 Kid's Summer Reading Challenge, titled "Unearth a Story." The program encourages children to read for 50 days to earn prizes. Recent reptile shows were held in Coalville, Kamas Valley, and Kimball Junction to kick off the summer series.
Brigham City Seasonal Events
Brigham City Library is hosting several seasonal events. On June 17, the library will hold "Books, Babies, and Bubbles," an outdoor summer storytime for children ages 0-2 held on the library plaza. A previous program, "Pages & Paws with Farnham," allowed children to read aloud to a service dog on June 5.
Davis School District Programs
In the Davis School District, West Clinton Elementary is promoting the "Davis Reads 45" summer challenge, which tasks students with reading for 45 days to earn prizes. The school library will also be open on most Tuesdays throughout the summer from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., featuring storytime at 10:30 a.m.
Alpine School District Resources
Alpine School District is providing free summer meals for all children ages 18 and under at designated locations. Additionally, Silver Lake Elementary noted that community support resources, including a school pantry with food and hygiene products, remain available to families in need.
Recent Local Community Activities
Other recent local activities included a multicultural celebration at Silver Lake Elementary and the graduation of the Clearfield and Syracuse High Class of 2026 at West Clinton Elementary.
