Higher education analysts have warned that Utah is approaching a "demographic cliff" because of anticipated declines in college-age residents in the coming years. A recent Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute report asserted that around 2029, Utah's population of college-age residents — ages 18 to 24 — will begin a period of decline expected to last about 20 years.
