Monticello City has outlined essential procedures for residential sanitation services to ensure efficient trash collection. Scheduled pickup days are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with collection beginning at 7:00 AM.
Residents are instructed to place containers at the end of their driveways with handles facing the house. Containers should be within two feet of the curb and at least one foot away from obstructions such as mailboxes, fences, or vehicles. If multiple cans are used, there must be at least one foot of space between them.
On snowy days, the city advises setting trash cans out in the morning before 7:00 AM instead of the night before to prevent snowplows from knocking them over. To avoid missed collections, residents should not overfill containers and must ensure that all yard trimmings, such as grass or small bushes, are bagged.
Items that will not be collected include tree limbs larger than four feet tall or four inches in diameter, flammable items, hot ashes, un-bagged animal waste, and construction debris like concrete or dirt. The city also noted that garbage left on the ground around containers will not be picked up.
Regarding dumpster services, Monticello City does not rent dumpsters to residents or supply them for construction debris. For those with existing dumpsters, lids must remain closed at all times. Will call collections will be completed within a week.
Monticello City garbage account holders are eligible for free dump month, which includes two free dumps of household trash only. All other items during this period will be charged at regular prices.
