Coalville City Mayor Mark R Marsh issued a notice requesting resident cooperation due to a severe drought and a significant shortage of secondary water. In a message posted to the city's website, the mayor stated that the flow from Chalk Creek has diminished drastically over the past two and a half to three weeks.
To conserve water, the city is implementing an immediate odd/even day watering schedule. Odd-numbered addresses are permitted to water on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, while even-numbered addresses are permitted on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. No watering is allowed on Sundays.
Additionally, watering is prohibited between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM. The mayor noted that watering during cooler hours, such as early morning or late evening, is more effective at reducing evaporation. Residents are also asked to avoid wasteful practices, such as washing vehicles or spraying off sidewalks and driveways.
The mayor provided several tips to help residents maintain lawns during the drought. These include mowing grass longer to help shade the soil and retain moisture, watering during the night or early morning to allow for better absorption before sunrise, and applying fertilizer appropriately to manage lawn health under stress.
The mayor urged residents to be good neighbors and follow the guidelines to help the community through the summer season.
