SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Mammoth have signed defenseman John Marino to an eight-year, $54 million extension with an annual average value of $6.75 million.
The deal was announced on Tuesday following a career-best season for the defenseman, which featured his first career playoff goal.
Mammoth general manager Bill Armstrong stated that the team views Marino as a foundational piece of their future. Armstrong noted Marino's ability to control the game from the back end and his play in transition.
Armstrong also said the team trusts Marino to make right decisions in critical situations and highlighted the level of calmness under pressure he brings to the veteran group.
Marino recorded career highs of 36 points and 32 assists with four goals during his second season with the Mammoth. This followed his 2024 trade from New Jersey.
The 29-year-old defenseman ranked second among all NHL defensemen at plus-42 and participated in all six games during Utah's first playoff appearance since moving from Arizona.
Throughout seven NHL seasons with Utah, New Jersey, and Pittsburgh, Marino has accumulated 23 goals and 134 assists.
