The Utah 3A football playoffs are characterized as being as unpredictable as March Madness following Logan's 32-22 victory over Morgan, according to a report published October 21, 2026.
Andy Thompson stated on The Rush's October 21 broadcast that the Morgan upset in the conference championship game has made victory possible for many other teams in the bracket.
The RPI race remains highly competitive at the top of the rankings. Morgan holds approximately 69 points while Logan has approximately 65 points, with only about four points separating the top three teams.
While last year's state finalists, Manti and Cedar, currently sit lower in the rankings, Thompson noted that no one wants to play those teams.
A highly anticipated first-round rematch is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 23, between No. 6 seed Canyon View and No. 11 seed Manti. Canyon View, with a 7-3 record, will host Manti, who is 2-8.
According to MaxPreps, the Falcons defeated Manti 28-21 on Oct. 15. Thompson noted the teams were tied 21-21 at halftime and that the matchup appears evenly matched.
Manti quarterback Kingston Wright has demonstrated significant performance against high-level competition, including throwing for 525 yards against Pine View, five touchdowns against Grantsville, and 426 yards and four touchdowns at Juab.
Canyon View relies on a strong linebacker corps featuring Wyatt Copp to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
Thompson predicts that the 3A classification may see more upset wins in the initial rounds than other classifications. Teams identified as potential contenders for upsets include Richfield, Canyon View, North Sanpete, Cedar, and Manti in the south, alongside Logan, Morgan, Ogden, and Grantsville in the north.
