The Salt Lake City Community Reinvestment Agency (CRA) approved nearly $6.4 million in funding on May 13, 2026, to support affordable homeownership projects within the city. The allocation covers townhomes, single-family homes, and tools for down payment assistance.
This funding is intended to support low- and moderate-income households using community land trust and shared equity models to ensure long-term affordability.
Mayor Erin Mendenhall, who serves as the executive director of the CRA, stated that the goal is for Salt Lake City to be a place where families can build a future and stay in their preferred neighborhoods. She noted that these projects are designed to help residents purchase homes, build equity, and remain rooted in the city.
The funding is part of the Residential Wealth Building Pilot Program, which is currently in its second year. This program supports strategies to expand homeownership access while maintaining affordability.
The CRA began evaluating applications for this competitive funding opportunity in October 2025, focusing on project readiness, affordability, and financial sustainability.
Two specific projects were approved through this funding round:
Gladhouse 3, located at 1084 West 1700 South, will receive $2.4 million. Developed by the Community Development Corporation of Utah (CDCU), the project aims to create eight affordable single-family cottage court-style homes for households earning at or below 80% AMI. The funding also supports homebuyer counseling programs, matched savings, and down payment assistance. Groundbreaking is expected in mid-2026.
Brix on Tenth, located at 1549 South 1000 West, has been allocated $4 million. This project is being developed by Garbett Homes in partnership with Homium. It will create 23 deed-restricted townhomes for households earning between 80% and 100% of the Area Median Income (AMI). The project utilizes a shared equity model to maintain affordability for future buyers, with groundbreaking scheduled for early to mid-2026.
