Real Salt Lake suffered a late 1-1 draw against the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026, after a stoppage-time equalizer denied the hosts a victory at America First Field. Canadian international Luc de Fougerolles scored his first goal for the club in his first home start, but San Jose's Jack Jasinski leveled the match in the final seconds of play.
RSL Lineup Changes
The match saw significant changes to the Real Salt Lake lineup under Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni. Following a 2-1 defeat at Subaru Park on Saturday, Mastroeni introduced three starters: 21-year-old Canadian international de Fougerolles, making his first MLS start for the club in place of DeAndre Yedlin; Uruguayan international JuanMa Sanabria, replacing Sam Junqua; and Georgian international Saba Lobjanidze, replacing Aiden Hezarkhani.
Offensive Pressure and Missed Chances
Real Salt Lake controlled much of the offensive momentum, recording 22 shots compared to San Jose's 16. Early opportunities for Salt Lake included a shot from Morgan Guilavogui that forced a save from Earthquakes goalkeeper Angus Gunn, and a header from Noel Caliskan that was also denied by the keeper. Rookie Sergi Solans and Kobi Henry also missed scoring opportunities during the first half and early second half.
De Fougerolles Breaks Deadlock
The deadlock was broken in the 79th minute when Aiden Hezarkhani played the ball to Sanabria near the edge of the penalty area. Sanabria turned toward the box and laid the ball off to de Fougerolles, who struck a low, driven shot into the bottom corner for his second goal contribution in two games.
Late Equalizer Denies Victory
San Jose's equalizer arrived in the fifth minute of stoppage time. A deflection off Sanabria sent the ball to Jack Jasinski, who connected with a first-time volley that flew into the bottom left corner to tie the game at 1-1. The result leaves Real Salt Lake with a 9-14-6 record and 33 points in the Western Conference.
