Residents in Eureka returned to their homes after days of uncertainty as fire officials lowered evacuation orders to SET status. The change followed a wildfire that threatened the small Juab County community.
About 600 people were evacuated on a Saturday night as the Iron Fire moved close to residential areas.
Fire officials lifted the evacuation order on a Thursday, though they warned residents to remain prepared to leave if conditions changed. As people drove back into town, many expressed relief that their homes remained standing despite the fire's proximity.
Homeowner Linda Hope expressed gratitude toward firefighters, emergency crews, and local leaders for their efforts in protecting the community.
As residents settle back into their homes, city leaders are focusing on assisting those who may still require help. Mayor Robert Jenkins stated that once the evacuation site in Elberta closes, resources will be available at the LDS church in Eureka.
Emergency crews continued to monitor the wildfire as containment efforts remained underway.
