Governor Cox expressed deep sadness regarding the unexpected passing of Talia Casares in a statement published September 15. Casares served as Utah’s 2027 Teacher of the Year and was an educator at Moroni Elementary.
According to the statement from Governor Cox, Casares taught fourth and sixth grades. The Governor noted that Casares had a gift for helping students feel seen, valued, and capable. His statement added that her belief in student potential left a lasting mark on Sanpete County and the state of Utah.
The Governor and his wife, Abby, stated they are praying for the family, students, and colleagues of Casares.
