The Salina City Council met at Salina City Hall on August 12, 2026, to conduct business regarding city policies, infrastructure, and departmental equipment. According to meeting agenda documents, the council addressed several municipal approvals, including an infrastructure loan and airport maintenance contracts.
The council approved Resolution 265-2026, which authorizes the Mayor to execute an Inland Port Infrastructure Revolving Loan Fund agreement. Mayor Brent Beach stated that the resolution was generated by housing development and noted that Salina City taxes will not increase because of the loan.
Regarding municipal infrastructure, the council approved an airport contract for pavement preservation at the Salina/Gunnison Airport. The project, which includes seal coating and restriping the runway, has a total cost of $198,187.50. UDOT will cover 90% of the cost, while Salina City and Gunnison City will each be responsible for $9,909.38.
Additionally, the council approved the purchase of two new Dodge vehicles for a total cost of $57,755.26, factoring in a $59,000 trade-in value for two existing trucks. Police Chief Al Taylor noted that the Salina Police Department will use one of the new trucks for animal control. The council also approved the purchase of two new dash cameras for police vehicles for $13,988.02, funded through the Beer Tax Grant.
During the meeting, the council approved the hiring of Benjamin Murphree as a new fireman.
Councilman Allen Tietjen discussed the need for Salina and Gunnison to attract additional businesses to support the Inland Port. He noted that improvements and bringing water to the airport would be required, though he mentioned that the State indicated there is not a well at the location adjacent to the airport.
Tammy Hales reported that North Sevier Recreation recently hired a new Recreation Director, Dani Allred. Mayor Beach announced that Jake Van has resigned from the Blackhawk Arena Director position, and the city will advertise for a full-time replacement.
