Staff and visitors at Ogden Union Station have recounted various unexplained encounters at the historic site, according to a October 20 report by The Ogdenite. The station is recognized as one of the most haunted locations in the city.
Hope Eggett, who works in museum administration, noted that while she was initially skeptical, numerous strange occurrences over the years have made it difficult to deny the presence of paranormal activity. Eggett reported hearing children giggling, whistling, and catching the scent of lavender associated with the folklore of the Lady in White. She stated that the staff generally avoids being the last person remaining in the station at night.
Eggett suggested that the station's history as a major community hub, filled with the emotions of people saying hello or goodbye, may create a high level of energy that attracts spirits.
Jen Wright, director of the Paranormal Investigation Team of Utah, has conducted investigations at the station through events such as Night at the Museum. Wright, whose team is affiliated with the Atlantic Paranormal Society, noted that investigations are often tedious rather than glamorous.
During her time at the station, Wright reported experiencing electronic voice phenomenon (EVP) recordings, seeing devices move, and being touched by an unidentified presence during a tour. She emphasized that her professional team seeks natural explanations for phenomena before attributing them to ghosts.
The investigation process involves researching local history and using specialized tools. These include electromagnetic field (EMF) readers to track energy spikes, infrared cameras for low-light visibility, and audio equipment for capturing EVPs. Teams also perform tests, such as asking spirits to operate light switches.
While Union Station is considered highly active, Wright noted that other local sites like The Bigelow Apartments and the Ogden City Cemetery are harder to investigate. Environmental factors, such as nearby residents or outdoor settings, make it difficult to rule out human-caused noises or lights as the source of paranormal activity.
