A second suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the homicide of 7K-year-old James Witten. Abner Aroldo Avila, age 21, was arrested in California and is being held while awaiting extradition to Utah.
The arrest follows the previous capture of Axel Eduardo Chavez Marroquin, 23, who was arrested on June 16 in Las Vegas. Both suspects are facing charges related to the incident.
The shooting occurred just before 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 30. Witten was taking out the trash at his home near 2000 West and 200 North when he was shot and killed. Davis County deputies discovered his body on the porch of the residence.
The suspects fled the scene following the shooting and remained unidentified for several weeks. While little information has been released, the investigation remains ongoing.
