The top-ranked Lehi boys volleyball team completed a perfect first day at the 6A state tournament. The Pioneers defeated No. 16 Westlake in the second round and No. 8 Cedar Valley in the quarterfinals with 3-0 decisions.
In the match against Westlake, the Thunder provided their strongest resistance during the first set, leading by five points on multiple occasions. Lehi ultimately won that set 25-20 after scoring seven consecutive points at the end. The Pioneers then won the second set with a score of 25-9.
The third set against Westlake was also competitive, but Lehi maintained a narrow advantage to close out the match 25-21.
In the quarterfinals, Lehi faced Cedar Valley, who entered the match after a five-set victory over No. 9 Davis. Lehi took control early in the first set to win 25-18.
During the second set against the Aviators, Cedar Valley led for much of the first half. However, after Lehi tied the score at 14-all, the Pioneers did not trail again and won the set 25-21.
The third game against Cedar Valley saw frequent ties, including a 23-all deadlock. Lehi secured the win 25-23 following a kill and a hitting error by Cedar Valley.
The Pioneers hold a 24-2 record and move on to the semifinals. They are scheduled to play No. 5 Mountain Ridge at noon on Court 3 at UVU’s UCCU Events Center.
