A driver was left in critical condition after an unsecured metal pole crashed through a windshield in Provo Canyon on August 13.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:15 p.m. near milepost 8 on westbound State Route 189, according to Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Zach Randall.
The metal pole fell from a pickup truck and struck a Honda Civic traveling behind it, penetrating the windshield and hitting the driver, Randall stated.
A passenger in the Honda was able to safely stop the vehicle following the impact. The driver was transported to a medical facility in critical condition.
Investigators have not yet located the pickup truck involved in the incident, and minimal information regarding the vehicle has been obtained.
Utah Highway Patrol is asking anyone driving through Provo Canyon at the time of the accident to review dash camera recordings for any helpful information.
