Madsen Park was selected as a project to receive funding from the Parks, Trails, & Open Space General Obligation Bond, which was approved by voters in November 2022. The initiative seeks to invest in and activate underutilized neighborhood parks to increase community access to quality green spaces.
The project is currently in the design and document review phase. Following the completion of community engagement regarding concept designs, the project team is working to develop the final preferred concept and schematic design.
Public input has been gathered through multiple rounds. In 2024, the first round of public input was conducted to identify current park usage and desired improvements. A second round of engagement focused on evaluating three design concepts through engagement events and an online survey.
The Madsen Park playground was scheduled to close on June 16 for the installation of a new Kaboom! playground. The new playground was expected to open for play in July. During the construction period, residents were directed to alternative playgrounds at Jackson Park, Constitution Park, Cottonwood Park, Sherwood Park, or Pioneer Park.
