The production of "Savior of the World: His Birth and Resurrection" on Temple Square will be presented as a two-day concert and live broadcast for the 2026 Christmas season, according to a November 5 statement. The musical will focus on Act 1, which centers on the anticipation and birth of Jesus Christ.
The concert performances are scheduled for Friday, November 27 and Saturday, November 28, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. in the historic Tabernacle on Temple Square. An additional Saturday matinee is scheduled for 2 p.m. ASL interpretation will be available for the Saturday evening performance. The 70-minute performances are free, though tickets are required. Tickets will become available on Tuesday, November 10, at 10 a.m. Mountain Daylight Time.
The concert on November 28 will be streamed live in English and ASL on the Church's YouTube channel and Broadcasts.ChurchofJesusChrist.org. It will also be available for on-demand viewing on those channels as well as in the Gospel Library. This presentation format is due to preparations for the 2027 Salt Lake Temple Celebration and the closure of the Conference Center.
The musical features minimal staging, a live orchestra, and an expanded 300-member choir consisting of children, youth, young adults, and adults, many of whom participate as families. Since 2000, multiple casts have performed the production in the Conference Center Little Theater as a free, ticketed event that has historically sold out. The full production is expected to return next year.
The musical is available to be produced by local Church leaders using free online resources, including scripts, musical scores for 38 musical numbers, and details for casting and set design. Other upcoming presentations include the Church's Pacific Area presenting the musical on December 16–19, 2026, in Auckland, New Zealand, and Brigham Young University–Hawaii presenting it on November 28–29 and December 2, 2026, at the Polynesian Cultural Center Pacific Theater.
