A proposed $128 million bond would support 30 parks and recreation projects across Salt Lake County, according to a September 14 report. If approved by voters, the funding would support new trails, upgraded facilities, and two new recreation centers.
The proposed projects are categorized into repair, complete, and build projects. Repair projects, totaling $35.8 million, aim to modernize existing facilities through infrastructure upgrades, accessibility improvements, and water-efficient irrigation. Examples include $8.5 million for renovations at Pleasant Green Park and $4.22 million for infrastructure improvements at Olympus Hills Park.
Complete projects, totaling $21.1 million, are designed to finish planned phases of existing facilities. These include expanding the trail network at Big Cottonwood Regional Park and constructing a maintenance building at Dimple Dell Regional Park. The projects aim to add amenities such as pavilions, trails, and restrooms.
Build projects, totaling $62.3 million, focus on constructing new facilities to meet growing community demand. Proposed developments include a LEED Gold-certified regional recreation center at Union Park in Midvale and a new regional recreation center at Ron Wood Regional Park in West Jordan.
Other proposed builds include the Southwest Athletic Complex in Herriman and an all-abilities playground at Library Square in Salt Lake City. The bond would also fund an aquatic expansion at the Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center.
