Great Salt Lake State Park has implemented Stage 2 fire restrictions, according to a notice updated on August 21, 2026. Under these restrictions, all open fires are prohibited, including those in established fire pits, charcoal grills, pellet grills, or any fuel that produces ash.
Properly shielded gas or liquid-fueled portable camp stoves with a shut-off valve are permitted, provided they are used in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren and contains no flammable vegetation.
New access to Black Rock has been established through a new trailhead. Visitors can walk approximately one-quarter mile from this trailhead to Black Rock, or walk one mile from Sunset Beach.
The park provides boat slips, public viewpoints, motorboat and sail access, and a search and rescue operations center. The lake is a significant location for bird watching due to its role as a stop for millions of migratory birds.
The park campground is open year-round and features RV sites capable of accommodating vehicles up to 40 feet. These sites include water, an RV dump station, and electricity with 110, 30amp, and 50amp options. Primitive beach tent sites are also available, though they lack vehicle access or hookups and feature established fire pits.
Additional park regulations include a $2 entrance fee for cyclists and permit requirements for metal detecting and drone use. Boat tours are provided by Exclusive Excursions.
